This blog post is more for my own selfish reasons, but if it helps motivate someone else in the process, the victory is already won.
As a rather new entrepreneur myself, I lose faith in myself and the process now and then. I feel it is time for some extra motivation inspired by other successful entrepreneurs, who have walked the path of insecurity and mental struggle, moved passed it, and accomplished extraordinary things in life.
What Is Their Secret To Success?
Well, that is what I want to share with you in this issue. The first motivational tips and advice to successful entrepreneurship, Motivation #1, is taken from Michael Glauser’s new book Main Street Entrepreneur. Although, it is rewritten to fit my personal style.
Motivation #1. Think Back On Why You Started Your Business In the First Place
It is important to constantly revisit the reason to why you started your business. Reflect on compelling reasons and advantages for building your own business.
Maybe you need to remind yourself about that annoying boss who drove you crazy on your last job? Well, now YOU get to call the shots. You can create your own strategy. You can hire who you want. You can make changes and develop new strategies quickly. You can operate according to your own values. You can build equity in your business.
If you are a parent, you can go to your kids’ soccer games and school meetings. The main thing is to reflect more on the advantages of business ownership, as opposed to being unengaged in a corporate inflexible structure.
If you fail to do this at regular intervals, you can get hung up in the “what” and “how” of running your company and forget WHY you started your business in the first place.
Remember, if you have a strong “why,” you can get through any “what” and “how.” This process will keep your passionate tenacity engaged.
Motivation #2. Monitor Your
Research supports the concept that we feel the way we think. When we have negative or scary thoughts, various chemicals like cortisol and adrenaline are released in the brain, causing feelings of anxiety and depression.
However, when we think positive and optimistic thoughts, happy neurotransmitters are released, helping us feel better.
This is why it is so important to watch what you are thinking and reprogram your thoughts.
The ability to choose our thoughts is one of the greatest freedoms of our mortal existence. The most successful entrepreneurs are masters of optimistic thinking, which keeps their enthusiastic persistence and fire burning and stops them from giving up.
The Key Is To Focus On All the Ways You Can Make Something Work Rather Than the Reasons To Why It Will Or May Not Work
Keep the affirmations going! Positive thinking can literally reprogram your brain and become your greatest ally.
Motivation #3. Manage Your Expectations
Managing your expectations plays a critical role in staying passionately engaged in your business. If you enter the entrepreneurship with the thought; “it is going to be easy”, you will most likely be the first person giving up, and often rather prematurely.
Those who know it can and will be hard, and also get excited to overcome the challenges, will do much better in the long run. They will be the ones who succeed with their business.
Motivation #4. Challenge Yourself and
Something that will keep you motivated and triggered is to keep challenging yourself on a daily basis. Treat life like a long journey and education, where you can learn more and travel further every single day.
Also, do not re-build “Rom” from scratch – take help and use proven methods and business strategies. If they work for others, they can certainly work for you too!
Take risks. You can never know the outcome of your efforts unless you actually do them.
Never Regret Failure! Regret Not Trying!
I Took A Risk Putting My Own Photography Art Out For Sale
You may think; “what is the big deal with that?“. Well, for me it s an emotional risk. A risk of failure.
WHAT IF no one wants to buy my art work?! Yes, it may well be the case, but I took a risk and jumped and it feels damn good!
Motivation #5. Learn From Your Mistakes
Many entrepreneurs point to mistakes as being their best teacher. When you learn from your mistakes, you move closer to success — even though you initially failed.
Like already mentioned, we can only regret NOT trying, and mistakes WILL follow. Learn from them and progress instead.
Also, listen and learn from complaints.
Bill Gates once said that your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.
Let unhappy customers teach you where the holes in your business/service are.
The next lead in this strategy is to be a bit more proactive and ask customers about their input. Assuming what customers want or need will never lead to success. You must ask them directly, and then carefully listen to what they say. Take action and try to make things better according to their input.
Motivation #6. Track Your Daily Income
If within your grasp to define how much money you make – as in how many projects or sales, you complete per day – then tracking your daily income can be a good way to stay committed.
First, calculate how much you would realistically like to make per year, then break it down per week, per day, and finally per hour. Once you know how much you “need” to make each day, track it with each task/project/sale completed. When you see you are just $40 short of the day’s goal, it can be enough to give you a push forward and an energy boost.
